Reading the new references

"393(1) Sl. 6(i)" means section 393, sub-section (1), serial number 6(i) of its table. Sub-section (1) covers payments to residents, (2) payments to non-residents and (3) payments to any person, such as lottery winnings, cash withdrawals and payments by firms to partners. TDS challans and quarterly statements from April 2026 carry these references and a payment code instead of the old section number.

The renumbering did not change rates or thresholds. Finance Act 2026 changes: supply of manpower is treated as work under the contractor entry, and interest awarded by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal to an individual is fully exempt, so no TDS. Without a valid PAN the rate is generally 20% (old section 206AA). Payments for March 2026 and earlier stay under the old sections.
